So we haven’t done many weddings at a client’s home in the past so anytime that idea comes up I get a little nervous as doing it at a typical wedding venue it’s for the most part rinse and repeat as far as lay of the land. When you’re doing it at a home you have different conditions such as space, power, parking, etc plus not to mention most couples have never thrown a party. So when I did a site visit and planning meeting at Katharine and Doug’s home in Ojai, CA they had a nice big backyard and had things pretty well planned out which was a relief. In fact their ceremony and reception space was so great I couldn’t stop thinking about all the great things we could do. Specifically with lighting.
So the day of there wedding
Upon arriving I can see that Katharine and Doug did a lot of work on there backyard. They had a tent up, market lighting under the tent and lighting hung from the house to a tree in their yard. It looked great!
Greg my assistant and I got to work setting up ceremony and reception sound. Katharine and Doug also got Lighted Lanterns and Uplighting from us. So we placed uplights around the yard to highlight the trees later on. We placed Lanterns through out the walk ways, pin spotted the cake and in addition to that placed pin spot lighting on the head tables which were made just for Katharine and Doug’s wedding.
The ceremony was short and sweet performed by Doug’s friend Keola Cabudol. While Katharine and Doug went to take photos the guests listened to Surfer Type music for cocktails. As the Sun began to go down the lighting came to life. This would be one my favorite weddings of the year because the atmosphere and background for Katherine and Doug’s wedding was perfect. Music is important for any event, but setting the mood for the event makes a difference from every angle such as lighting, surroundings, temperature, food and beverage and it was perfect.
Thank you Katharine and Doug for trusting in Greg and I to be there on your special day!
